Project: The Mayesbrook Children's Centre

This project involved the strip out and reconfiguration of an existing two storey property together with the construction of a single storey pitched roof extension. With an eye to sustainability, the Client has specified many environmentally friendly elements and materials, including a ground source heat pump to provide domestic hot water and underfloor heating; photovoltaic panels to produce electricity with surplus being sold to the National Grid; a 6,500ltr rainwater harvesting system to flush the WCs; full insulation; LED PIR-controlled lighting and triple glazing throughout.  It is estimated the environmental measures incorporated into the design will result in a 90% reduction in energy use.

The project won a Green Apple award, gold level, in the architectural heritage and built environment sector, for its environmental measures.
