RIBA and Stephen Lawrence Prize for St Patrick's School

Bolt & Heeks are delighted to announce that Coffey Architects have won not only a RIBA award (London section) but also the prestigious RIBA 2011 Stephen Lawrence Prize for St Patrick’s School.

Stephen Lawrence, just 19 when he was brutally murdered at a bus stop in Eltham in 1993, had hopes of becoming an architect and so the RIBA Stephen Lawrence Prize is a fitting tribute to his memory.

The prize, which rewards the best examples of projects with a budget of less than £1m, was set up to encourage fresh young talent working with smaller budgets.

The award was presented to Coffey Architects by Stephen’s mother, Doreen Lawrence OBE, at the RIBA Stirling Prize 2011 dinner on Saturday, 1st October.

Architect and RIBA Past President Marco Goldschmeid, who also sponsors the Stephen Lawrence Prize and was on the judging panel, said: "The St Patrick’s School Music Room and Library marks that rare occasion when a small budget in the hands of a thoughtful and ingenious architect lays the seed for the step-by-step transformation of an entire institution. The effortless and elegant integration of structure, internal finishes and fixed furniture creates a place that generations of pupils will fondly remember in years to come."

Bolt & Heeks salute Coffey Architects for producing a stunning design and are proud to have played a part in transforming their design into reality.
