Bolt & Heeks Win Gold

Bolt & Heeks were delighted to win Gold at the Green Apple Awards, presented at the Tower of London in June 2010. We came first in the SME section of the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage category for our Mayesbrook Centre contract for the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.

The Green Apple Awards campaign is run by The Green Organisation, an independant, non-political, non–profit organisation that recognises, rewards and promotes environmental best practice around the world.

Supporters include the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Waste Management, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, Save Britain’s Heritage, the Municipal Journal and various other professional bodies concerned with environmental matters.

The awards are held annually and consider environmental projects from all over the world, which made it especially pleasing when our name was called out for the Gold Award!

The Mayesbrook Centre qualified because, very briefly, we took a dilapidated council stores building in the middle of a 1950s estate, fully refurbished it inside and out, and installed enough environmental wizardry to reduce the centre’s energy bills by a staggering 90%.The Centre is now at the heart of the community; it houses a Sure Start centre, family support and health services, and offers advice and support on jobs, benefits and training opportunities.

John Catlin’s General Works division carried out the works with Peter Winder taking the lead.

Full details of the Mayesbrook Centre can be found under Our Works in the environmental section.
